SVX helped the Canada Mortgage & Housing Corporation (CMHC) better understand the market gaps and capital requirements for each stage of development of affordable housing, and the barriers that currently prevent capital from finding and supporting these housing projects. For this project, we journey-mapped the development and investment process for housing stakeholders, advised CMHC on their plans for a digital platform to connect developers and investors, and co-wrote a policy report with the University of Toronto’s Infrastructure Institute.

In a subsequent engagement, we organized a webinar that showcased the breadth of innovative projects led by communities (and supported by CMHC) across the country. It was supplemented with in-person events in two cities, featuring site visits and intimate conversations with people

with lived experience, to bring the webinar’s content to life. By combining a wide-reaching (and recorded) webinar with an experiential and peer learning component, we sought to broaden the network of impact investors who are ready, willing, and able to focus their attention, influence their peers, and mobilize their capital towards affordable housing projects.Â
